Routine Cleanings and Exams

Dentistry has evolved over the years, and there is a strong focus on preventative measures to ensure a healthy mouth and body. Professional dental cleanings performed by a dental hygienist are a must for your overall health.

A Physical Exam

The oral cavity is carefully examined, using a small mirror to identify gum diseases and other dental issues. In the case of significant concerns, the dentist will take further preventive steps to avoid any oral condition.

Comprehensive Dental Exam

A thorough evaluation and recording of the extraoral and intraoral hard and soft tissues. It may require interpreting information acquired through additional diagnostic procedures (radiographs). This also includes an oral cancer evaluation, a recording of the patient’s dental and medical history, and a general health assessment.

It may include the evaluation and recording of dental caries, missing or unerupted teeth, restorations, existing prostheses, occlusal relationships, periodontal conditions (including screening and charting), hard and soft tissue anomalies, etc. All information reviewed and gathered is necessary for developing a customized, comprehensive treatment plan.

Why are dental radiographs important?

A radiograph examination identifies dental problems that are not visible during a clinical oral exam. It helps in detecting dental problems early and also in determining the following issues:

  • Abscesses present at the tooth roots
  • Evaluate the progression of temporomandibular disorders
  • Identify tumors, cysts, and abnormal growths in the mouth, neck, or head
  • Tooth decay present between the teeth or under existing restorations
  • Evaluate and monitor bone loss in the mouth
  • Infection present in the pulp chamber
  • Malocclusion or misalignment of the bite
  • Identify impacted teeth
  • Evaluate the state of existing dental restorations.
